The training will explore and discuss the various forms of child abuse; neglect, physical, psychological and sexual abuse including commercial sexual exploitation of children.
Participants will deepen their understanding of child abuse history, the laws related to
child abuse including those of mandated reporting. This training will provide participants the opportunity to enhance and practice assessment, mock reporting and follow up regarding child abuse reports via vignettes. Participants will gain a deeper
understanding of cultural and ethical considerations essential for effective practice. The impact of child abuse on the development of the child and their attachment will be
explored and discussed. This training will also cover effective parenting strategies and
making repairs in attachment. The training will emphasize practical application,

complexities of working with children and families impacted by abuse.

Partner Abuse – Ken Weekes
This course explores the multifaceted dimensions of intimate partner violence (IPV),
delving into its nuanced manifestations within diverse populations, including same-sex
couples, elderly individuals, and those with disabilities. Through an intersectional lens,
students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges faced by
these marginalized groups, examining the intersection of power dynamics, societal
attitudes, and systemic factors that contribute to IPV. Drawing on a combination of
theoretical frameworks and practical case studies, the course equips participants with
the knowledge and skills necessary for culturally sensitive intervention strategies,
emphasizing trauma-informed approaches and advocacy for survivors. By fostering a
deeper comprehension of IPV within various contexts, this course aims to empower
future professionals to effect positive change and contribute to creating safer and more
inclusive communities.
